The Concert Hall as an Artistic Instrument

To the performer on stage, the hall is indeed another instrument. Why this is so. The performer's respect for a hall. The responsibility of a community that takes on the adventure of building a concert hall. The need for a permanent and healthy performing fund. The issue of finances. Can and must a hall pay for itself?
