- "CHRISTMAS MEETING"
With DR. LESLIE BELL and THE LESLIE BELL SINGERS featuring "STORY OF THE NATIVITY IN MUSIC AND VERSE"
Thursday, December 16th, 1954
CHAIRMAN: The President Mr. James H. Joyce.
Dr. C. C. Goldring, the Second Vice-President of the Club, introduced Dr. Leslie Bell.
DR. GOLDRING: Abour twenty years ago, in the course of my duties with the Toronto Board of Education, I recommended the appointment of a young man named Leslie Bell to the staff of Parkdale Collegiate Institute, to teach English, History and Music.
In a short time, he established a good reputation as a teacher, especially in the field of music. In 1939 he resigned to accept a position at the Ontario College of Education to instruct budding teachers concerning music. Meanwhile, some of his former students at Parkdale Collegiate Institute wished to continue to study with him so he formed a choir composed of graduates of the school. This was the beginning of the now famous Leslie Bell Choir.
He continued to instruct at the Ontario College of Education and developed his Choir, which took more and more of his time. He took it to sing in many places in Canada and the United States and it has been prominent on radio programmes for some years. He finally had to relinquish his duties at the Ontario College of Education and devote his full time to the work of the Choir, which is now favourably known in all parts of Canada. It is the outstanding organization of its kind in this country and it is with both pleasure and pride that I introduce to this audience Dr. Leslie Bell and his Choir.

THANKS OF THE MEETING were expressed by Mr. Donald H. Jupp, Third Vice-President of the Club.
